Ayurveda is the science of life. Both relate to Brahmanda (the macrocosm) and the Pindanda (the microcosm). While Vastu speaks of the cosmic universe and energies and their relation to the structure and surroundings man lives in Ayurveda speaks of the cosmic universe and its relation to the universe within man. Vastu aims at giving man contentment in terms of health, wealth and happiness and Ayurveda aims at providing man with health, refined growth and reasonable happiness.
Ayurveda considers "Pancha Mahabhootas" The five primary elements of nature are alloted certain placements by the classical vastu texts.
Udaka or water is given the northeast - Cosmic Energy.
Agni or fire is given the southeast.
Vayu or air is given the northwest.
Akasha or ether is given the southwest - Telluric Energy.
Prithvi or earth is given the Brahmasthana or the central place - Global Energy.
Ayurveda tells us that when there is an imbalance of these primary elements, it creates a malady. Ayurveda tells us that the constitution of a person decides the disease he or she is prone to:
The Air principle: created from ether and air. A Vata person can be prone to chronic constipation,back pain (normally lower back), paralysis, arthritis, etc.
The fire principle: Created from fire. A Pitta individual can be prone to rashes, itches and be susceptible to liver disorders.
The Water Principle: Created from water and earth. A Kapha individual can be prone to congestion of lungs, obesity, bronchitis, sinusitis and cold related ailments.
